It’s all about the Food

So today I went with one of my best friends to eat korean food. It was my third time and I like it, ohh how much I like it!

So in my city there is only one place where you can eat korean food. I know, I know what you’re thinking “In what hole are you living?”. Well it’s not that bad but you still can’t find so many places with different cuisines from all around the world. It is a pity actually but you have to work with what you have, right? So anyway there is this place that serves korean and japaness food and today as I said we’ve decided to go in order not only to eat (well duh!) but for my friend to also taste korean food for the first time.

So we went and as it happens to all unlucky people like me there was a group of tourists-I guess they were tourists- and we were asked to wait for about ten minutes before sitting in the restaurant. Always the luckiest person, always. Anyway after the waiting came the time for the food! We decided to go with the kind of pricey choice and get this thing, this plate that you get at school (well not in our schools here, but I’ve seen it on the tv!) in lunch. The one that is like a set menu. I think in korean is called 도시락.

So this is what I got

which was delicious. So it had Bulgogi which is korean beef barbecue, steamed rice, kimchi (!!), that soup that I know that it had mushrooms and onions and something else that I don’t know exactly what it is but it’s like it had alcohol although my friend strongly disagrees, and it had some zucchini, potatoes and I think the last one was same sort of vegetable probably pigweed (is that really how is called the βλήτο in english? Google translate says so, so who am I to disagree?) The point is that it was so so good. The Bulgogi was heavenly and I had tasted kimchi before but still I’m not sure what I think of it. On one hand I like it but on the other I find it weird. Yes the correct word is weird. I think it’s just an acquired taste.

My friend got this one

which was equally delicious and had the same side dishes but the rice was fried rice with veggies, instead of kimchi it had that sadad with some kind of sauce which was so good and the main dish was Tonkatsu I think it was called and it was fried pork with bbq sauce- we are now in Japan I guess!- and it was so so good.

And then after we ate they brought us free dessert. Yes yes free dessert! It was ice-cream and fried creamy apples and bananas. I don’t know how to describe it, it looked like a small donut which was filled with that cream and apples or bananas. I don’t know, all I know is that it was great. And free.

Ok now I know that this post might even have no reason to exist but still I wanted to share it with everyone. I always see people on dramas eating all these delicious food and I always get jealous. So it was time for revenge. Yes I wish but still I had a great time, and I don’t even need to mention that I didn’t stop talking about Korea, dramas, korean words that I knew and I was hearing from the people behind us. My poor friend right? Well that’s what friends are for. Haha.. I hope everyone will be able to enjoy at some point korean food. Happy eating!

  2. I love korean food too! And I won’t deny that it’s kpop and and kdramas that made me decide to try it. There are lots of korean restaurants and food joints in my country, but finding delicious ones are difficult, and most are expensive.

    1. Well I knew that there were chinese and japanese places before I start watching dramas but I didn’t know that there was a place that served korean food. If I knew I would probably have went even without the dramas, because well it’s food after all and I like trying different cuisines!
And this is the problem with having too many options- how do you decide where to go, where it has the most delicious things etcetc.. Haha.. And I wish too that it was cheaper but as I said you work with what you have.. 🙂

  3. Yum! I love reading food related posts. It’s funny how watching dramas always seems to inspire viewers to eat Korean food. I was inspired to try cooking with kimchi after watching Kimchi Family! I found kimchi to be an acquired taste too but after I discovered kimchi soups and stews, there was no turning back 😉
